From the Beca Cross to the Frare Pau Fountain

Surrounded by olive trees, the route begins at the Beca Cross and heads west. At around two hundred meters it changes direction and descends along the Les Torrades trail. It is a gentle descent that offers a chance to contemplate the beauty of the Olesan mountains. Once we pass over the Beca Cross ravine, the path rises to offer a view of much of the Llobregat valley until we come to a fork in the road, where we turn to the left.

A few yards further on the trail begins to descend again, and up ahead we can see the Llobregat River, the Can Vinyals de Esparreguera residential area and the C-55 highway. At one point on the trail there is another crossroads. Turning again to the left, we continue downhill until we are almost inside the Beca Cross ravine. Ascending the ravine, we will pass through a very rugged patch of land. But shortly afterward we will come to a flat clearing with tall trees that leads to a hidden fountain. We have now reached the Frare Pau fountain.

From History to Heritage

The Beca Cross is the only wayside cross in the municipality. The name of the site is believed to come from the surname Bequer (Johanis Bequer, owner of the land).

The Beca Cross Ravine (also called the Les Valls Ravine) was known as the Dehil or Dayl Ravine in the 17th century.

OLESA TOURISM

Olesa de Montserrat is a municipality rich in culture and tradition, located in the foothills of the mountain of Montserrat. Olesa de Montserrat is located in the north of the comarca (county) of Baix Llobregat, in the subcomarca of Montserratí, halfway between Barcelona and the Montserrat Monastery. The natural area of the municipality, with its beautiful and magnificent scenery, is bounded by the Llobregat river and the mountain chains of Sant Salvador de les Espases and Puigventós. Olesa’s roots are markedly agricultural; it is noted in particular for its cultivation of olives of the palomar or Olesan variety, native to the region, from which the famous Olesan oil is extracted.
