The territory of the municipality of Olesa de Montserrat contains areas of great beauty, protected spaces and culturally and geologically valuable areas with a great diversity of natural features. One of these is the Espai Natura Puigventós, a privileged spot beside the Llobregat river and Montserrat mountain. Owned by the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera, it is listed in the PEIN (Plan for Areas of Natural Interest) and is included in the Montserrat Area of Natural Interest and the European Union’s Natura 2000 network.
The Puigventós mountain and farmhouse, Sant Salvador de les Espases, Sant Pere Sacama and the rest area known as the Coll de les Espases form part of this extraordinary area, which covers part of the municipalities of Olesa de Montserrat and Vacarisses.
It is an extremely important biological corridor of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range and contains a wide variety of flora, especially orchids, among the Mediterranean plant life, and a varied fauna that includes the Bonelli's eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus) and the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus).
An ideal place to visit and enjoy nature and the extraordinary, emblematic views.
From History to Heritage
The Puigventós farmhouse, now largely demolished, dates back to the 13th-14th centuries.
Castles were built at both Sant Salvador de les Espases and Sant Pere Sacama because of the strategic nature of these locations.
In the Coll de les Espases rest area there are figures from a nativity scene (1999) and a monument dedicated to two mountain climbers who disappeared during an expedition in 1990 to Hidden Peak (Karakorum), sponsored by the Centre Muntanyenc i de Recerques Olesà and the local Catalan Hiking Club (UEC de Olesa).

Olesa de Montserrat is a municipality rich in culture and tradition, located in the foothills of the mountain of Montserrat. Olesa de Montserrat is located in the north of the comarca (county) of Baix Llobregat, in the subcomarca of Montserratí, halfway between Barcelona and the Montserrat Monastery. The natural area of the municipality, with its beautiful and magnificent scenery, is bounded by the Llobregat river and the mountain chains of Sant Salvador de les Espases and Puigventós. Olesa’s roots are markedly agricultural; it is noted in particular for its cultivation of olives of the palomar or Olesan variety, native to the region, from which the famous Olesan oil is extracted.
